STRUCK BY ENGINE
RAILWAY PORTER’S DEATH. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH. April 17. Struck by a shunting engine at the Tawhiti road level-crossing near the Hawera railway station this afternoon, Robert Hugh Trask, 20, a porter, single, was thrown against the cattlestop. dragged across the road by the engine, and killed. He was a son of Mr. T. E. Trask, of Eltliam. When the accident occurred about 1.30 p.m., Trask had been on duty at the crossing for the arrival of a. goods train from the south. It was passing him towards the station as he was struck by a locomotive travelling in the opposite direction on the adjoining rails. It is believed that Trask was preparing io swing himself into the guard's van of the goods train as II passed (he cattle stop.
