IKAMATUA GOLF CLUBThe opening of the Ikamatua golf season took place on Sunday, in fine but dull weather. There was a large number of players present, including visitors from Waitahu and Reefton Clubs. The Patron, Mr. W. C. Mirfin, welcomed all present, especially the visitors, and wished the club a prosperous season. The President, Mr. J. Green, drove the first ball. An enjoyable afternoon was spent on the links, which are in first-class order. Canadian foursomes were played, and some good scores were registered. The women provided afternoon tea. RUGBY FOOTBALL. GISBORNE, April 17. The Poverty Bay Rugby Union tonight nominated Mr. E. McKenzie I (Wairarapa) as sole selector for New] Zealand-teams, and Messrs T. Fren.ch (Gisborne), F. W. Lucas. (Auckland), and E. McKenzie (Wairarapa) as North Island selectors. It was also decided to apply to the N.Z.R.U. for a match -with the touring Fijians this season, preferably a game between Fiji and a Dominion Maori team.
STAR RUGBY CLUB. At a meeting of the Star Rugby Club on Sunday, Mr A. White was elected President, in succession to Dr. W. McKay, who has retired after 20 years as president of the club.
