May 20 —Manawatu. May 20, 22—Waikato. May 27—Foxton'. Final Reminder: Owners and trainers are finally reminded that acceptances for the Reefton Jockey Club’s meeting to be held at Reefton on Saturday next, close at 9 plm’., to-day. • Aramil Sold: > The two-year-old Colossus colt, Aranui, has been sold by P. T. Hogan to Mr j. Richardson. It is probable that the colt will be trained at Riccarton by J. C. Tomkinson. .Hard to Win:

Neither Lisnacree nor Amoretto looked like winners on Saturday, and trainer R. E. Coveriey will have a *?hard task in placing them. Tidewaiter: . ' An Awapuni report states that Tide-, waiter, who has hot raced for about four months, is rapidly rounding into racing condition, and, all' going well in the interim, willbe seen put at the Manawatu meeting next month. Disappointed: Sir Gladspihe had his first start in the colours of Mr. W.r Greenhill on Saturday, but disappointed. He is a . big four-year-old gelding, and failed to reveal much pace on the’ tiirriing' track. ' 1 L. J. Ellis:

A report from Sydney yesterday, stated that the “Daily Telegraph’’ had announced L. J. Ellis’s decision’tp settle in Australia. A later cablegram states that Ellis denies the report, and he is returning to the Dominion by the Awatda at the end of this week. Struck;Trouble: ■ Donadea struck some trouble ,in the back’ stretch in the Runanga Handi-, cap on Saturday, and had dropped back Jo near the rear befere the straight was reached. This gelding is speedy, dnd-may make, amends atReef ton. He is partial to a soft track. 3 " ' ■ ’, '■ Comus*. . ! After his victory over a mile and aquarter at the Kumara meeting, it was surprising to see Comus started in 'a, six and. a-half furlong event at Omoto on Saturday. He is a good stayer, and will have his chance oyer; a mile at Reefton on Saturday. Comus is how trained at Omoto by V. Lee. Whangarei Re-handicaps: Rehandicaps for the Whangarei Racing Club’s Autumn meeting are: — Portland Hack Handicap: Silver Cloud 31b, making 8.3. Northland Hack Hiirdlesf Airam, 121 b, making 12.7; Agog 81b, making 10.2.." Stewards’ Handicap: Brazilian 31b, making 7.6. Spearfoi’d will not be rehandicapped for the Maungatape.re. Hack Handicap.

Oratory .Retired; For soriie time it Jias been known that Oratory’s racing career was drawing to a close, and Fending on Easter Monday sjie .carried silk for the last time. The brilliant daughter of Gainscpurt and Oratress was turned out when L. G. Morris returned from Ellerslie, and it is understood that she is to be mated with' Bujandshar.

Consistent* ! Jayol'a .(Boy Jay—Lyrola), who won the principal event at the Avondale meeting yesterday, was at surprising odds considering his recent record. He has not been out of a place in his last 13 starts, for four wins, live seconds, and four thirds.. This Gisborne three-year-pld is a good' stayer, arid more should be heard of him.

Belated Success: Countervane’s victory at Omoto on Saturday was her first success for nearly three years. When she scored , .twice in heavy going at Wingatui in 1936, she gave promise of being a .' good stake-earner, but she did not carry on. Last season; the Weathervane njare started 11 times for one third in' a four-horse face at Waimate. Consistency Rewarded: Skyrena has lightened up considerably as a result of her recent racing, but, despite this, has been galloping consistently. She ran second at the first Greymouth meeting, after winning at Westport, and ran third at the Kumara meeting, while on Saturday last she recorded an impressive victory, and a second. She is bred well enough to go on winning.

Disappointed: Gilford showed promise of winning a race when he finished so well at the first Greymouth meeting, and again at the Kumara fixture. In each of his races during that week-end, he was handicapped by slow beginnings. On Saturday, he was again slow away in his two races, but failed to gallop with any dash. He may make amends at Reefton, but the bad beginnings he has made recently Are against him. First Race: « Treasurer (Paper Money-Sweet Beauty), had his first race at Omoto on Saturday, and performed satisfactorily deSpite a severe check in tlie straight. This four-year-pld halfbrother to Palmyra has some speed, and may be found racing prominently in novice events at the South Canterbury meeting at the end of the month.

Dagmar’s Breeding: Dagmar, runner-up in the two-year-old event at Randwick on Saturday is a stoutly bred filly by Medieval Knight (son of Gay Crusader) out of Rapina, a half-sister by Paladin to Rapine, one of the best stayers ever produced in New Zealand. Dagmar was bred at the Kia Ora Stud, New South Wales, her dam having been bought by Mr. P. Miller a few years ago in Canterbury. Breeding 1 and Looks: One of the best-looking fillies seer

at Ellerslie for a long time is Beaucouo, by Beau Pere from Volopia. She is full of quality, and is a perfectlymannered youngster, while she is also well grown for one of her age and sex. As Volopia is a half-sister to Charis, who produced Capric, winner of the Epsom Handicap at Randwick in 1936, Beaucoup has the requirements needed to make a successful galloper. Finished On: In contrast to his lifeless finish in tfie six furlongs Trial Handicap, Papernilla, a five-y4ar-old who has yet to win a race, finished full of running jn third place in the Ahaura Hack of one mile, on Saturday. The Paper Money gelding may be a better prospect for his first win over more ground than is the rule in -maiden races. -" , '

Will Win Again: Miss Tasta has improved with every outing, and in three starts has been twice first, and once third. She is by Lord Warden from a good mare in Murihuku, and on this breeding, and the way she finished on over the six furlongs on Saturday, this three-year-old should win over middle distances later. She has not yet finished winning over short courses.
