One of', the well-known names in New Zealand shipping will be perpetuated when the Federal Line’s new motor ship is launched with the name of Suffolk. Of 11,000 tons gross, the Suffolk will be similar to the motor ships Essex and Sussex, the most recent additions to the Federal Company’s fleet. She is being constructed on the Clyde by John Brown and Co. and Alexander Stephen and- Sons. The name Suffolk is a tradition 80 years old in the Federal Line, ships bearing it having been identified with the New Zealand trade for a considerable period. In order that, it might be again used after a period of years, the owners of a small English coastal vessel bearing the- same name have requested permission from the Board of Trade to rename their ship, allowing the Federal Company to use Suffolk.
