SOUTH ISLAND MEN’S DOUBLES [PER press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 15. C. Angus and H. A. Barnett retained the men’s tennis doubles championship of the South Island when they beat B. A. Barrer and S. Watson in three straight sets to-day. The score was 6/4, 6/2, 6/3. A handful of spectators watched the match, which was interesting and keenly fought, although the ultimate result was never in doubt. The defensive tactics of Barrer and Watson slowed up the game to a considerable extent and as a result their opponents could not force the pace as they would have liked. The third set was productive of some long rallies, with Watson holding his own in the volleying exchanges. The strong sun troubled all four players. PUNAKAIKI v. BARRYTOWN. Playing a return match at Punakc.iki yesterday, in idea, weather, Barrytown were defeated by 10 sets 59 games to 5 sets 60 games- The scores, with the Punakaiki players mentioned first, were as follow: —
