However, the Beau Pere filly pulled up all right and indications are that she will be in good order to contest the Champion Hack Cup at TTentham. As hopes are entertained that. Sudan will play a prominent part in the decision of the G.N. Oaks, that race should be an excellent trial for her. C.J.C. PLACINGS REVERSED. AVELLINGTON, March 10. The judges of the New Zealand Racing Conference (Messrs E. L. Riddiford, H. P. F. Blundell, and W. E. Leicester) have reversed the placings of the judge in the Raumai Handicap, run at the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club meeting on January 23.

After the race, the apprentice jockey, J. Chaplin, rider of Gay Chou, was charged by the Stipendiary steward, Mr. B. N. Sandilands. with interference and a breach of Rule 259. The judicial committee of the club, however, decided that the judge’s placing should stand. An appear against the decision of the committee was made Io the Wanganui District Committee by J. Manuel, ownof Sporting Gift, but this appeal was dismissed- 'Die stipendiary steward then appealed to Liu- judges of the Racing Conference against (he Wanganui Committee’s decision. His a)>peal is now upheld. The stipendiary steward further asked that, in view of such interference the judge’s placing be reversed, and that Sporting Gift he placed first and Gay Chon second. “Having- heard Hie evidence, we are of the opinion that it has been established that interference on I lie pari of Gay Chou prevented Sporting Gift from winning the Ratimati Handicap, and accordingly the position should be reversed,” the judgment stated. “Further evidence leaving us in a state of doubt whether the riding of the jockey, J. Chaplin, was deliberately foul riding, we extend io him (lie benefit of such doubt.”

DON WALLA CASE. DRIVER FINED £5O. CHRISTCHURCH. March 10. A mqeiing of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association was iteld to-day; present; Messrs. H. AA'. Kitchingham (acting-chairman). J. R. McKenzie. S. W. Kelly. J. M. Samson. B. P. McCai-thy, R. T. Reid. J. B. Thomson. T. J. W. Buxton, and the Hon. AV. Hayward, M.L.C. An appeal was heard from the decision of (he Auckland 'Protiing Club given <m an inquiiw “into the conduct of N. Cunningham, driver of Don Walla in the AVaiheke Handicap, calculated Io injure the Auckland 'Frotting Club and the sport of trotting, and disobeying the law!'u! order of Mr. A. Commons, ihe Stipendiary Steward.” After reading- the evidence given at the inquiry before Hie Auckland Trotting Club, and hearing Air. L. A. Dougall. counsel t’o.- Cunningham, the Association came to the following conclusions:

ill Tli.'it from Hie evidence given it could not bo gathered that there was any imputation that Cunningham had acted corruptl.v or dishonestly.

(2i That after going on the track with the object of racing in the Watheke Handicap. Cunningham withdrew the horse from the race, and although ordered by Mr. A. Commons and also being requested by Mr. J. S. Shaw. Stipendiary Stewards, to take part in the race, he refused to do so,

(3) There was no justification for his refusal.

( !) That Cunningham’s conduct, in faking Don Walla out. of the Waiheke Handicap after it. was in the starter’s hands, was calculated to injure the Auckland Trotting Club and the sport of t rot Ling.

(5) The Association, finding that there was no imputation of fraud or dishonesty in Cunningham’s conduct, was of opinion that the punishment no-led out bv the Auckland Trolling Club, was under the circumstances, too severe, and accordingly the Association varied the judgment in the following way: — (a) It removed the disqualification of Cunningham and of the horse Don Walla. tb) It suspended till the end of the 1938-39 season the horseman’s licence held by Cunningham and fined him the sum of £5O. Cunningham to be permitted to attend race meetings. OTHER CASES. Suspension of L. Davidson’s horseman’s licence for three months for alleged careless driving, by Hie Banks Peninsula. Racing Club was increased to suspension to the end of the season. It was decided that Davidson be granted permission to go on a racecourse.

Endorsement of the suspension of B. Thomson until the end of the season. and the disqualification of Champion by the Westland Racing Club, was held over.

The action of the Auckland Trotting Club in disqualifying Kewpie’s Jewel for excessive breaking was endorsed as was its action in fining S. A, Cults £5 for alleged misconduct. Notification was received from the Northern Tasmanian Trotting Association that E. A. Bromfield (owner). B. Lewis (driver), and the horse, Our Globe, had been disqualified for six months from January 5, 1939. The Victorian Trotting and Racing Association advised the disqualification for six months of W. C. Rothacker and the mare Lucky Flossie, and W. Lea and the mare Fairy Mac. for not trying to win. The disqualifications, which date from January 9, 1939, involved the automatic disqualification of Nimble Black and Susie Royal for the same period.

PARISIENNE— LUCKY JACK PARTIES EXONERATED. CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. The running of Parisienne and Lucky Jack at Forbury Park in January was discussed by the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association in committee, to-day, after which the following statement was issued: — “On account of the great deal of adverse criticism expressed and published throughout the Dominion concerning the running of the horses Parisienne and Lucky Jack at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on January 26 and 28. it devolved on the New Zealand Trotting Association, as the governing body, to make inquiries in an endeavour to discover whether or not there was any justification for such criticism. The necessity arose from the fact that no formal inquiry had been initiated by the Forbury Park Trotting Club in the first instance, the only evidence being that contained in the report of the stipendiary steward. “The Association considered that the incident warranted a thorough investigation for the reasons that there is no evidence from a qualified veterinary surgeon in confirmation or refutation of the suggestion made by the owner of Parisienne to the stipendiary steward suggesting kidney trouble as being responsible for the indisposition of the mare and that there was no satisfactory explanation for the rapid recovery of the mare between the two days’ trotting. “After holding the inquiry, at which various witnesses were examined", the Association is unanimously of the opinion that the explanations and evidence adduced are satisfactory and exonerates the parties from any suggestion of malpractice and decided that no further action be taken.”
