ARRESTS IN IRAQ
CONSPIRACY ALLEGED. [by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. — COPYBIGHT.] BAGHDAD, March 8. The former Premier of Iraq, Hikmat Suliman, and fifty officers, have been arrested. They are being charged with conspiring to overthrow the Government. Martial law was proclaimed at Hie military headquarters on March 7-COURTS-MARTIAL ORDERED (Recd. March 10, L p.m.) BAGHDAD, March 9. King Ghazi has issued a decree, ordering Suliman, three army officers, and five civilians, to be court-martial-led, for conspiracy. SHEIKH RECOGNISED. RUGBY, March 8. Replying to a. question in the Commons, the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Butler, said that Britain recognised the Sheikhdom of Koweit as an independent government under British protection, and had made urgent representations to* the Iraq Government to secure cessation of propaganda in Iraq against the Sheikh.
