For the fortnight ended to-day, the Greymouth office of the State Placement Service placed 20 men in private employment. Eleven of the positions filled were permanent, four temporary, and five casual.

With six vessels in port, all awaiting loading or the discharge of cargo, the rain caused n serious hold-up on the Greymouth wharf to-day. As the postponed picnic, of the Greymouth waterside workers is to- be held at Hokitika to-morrow, no work will be done, unless circumstances cause the further postponement of the picnic, and. thus the vessels are likely to experience further delay. Under normal "circumstances the wharf to-day would have keen busier than for some time, with gangs required for all of the vessels in pert, namely Hokitika, Karn, Puriri. Totara, Alexander and Gabriella.
