BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Greymouth Business Association was held last, evening, a representative gathering of businessmen being present. The President. Mr. S. B. White, gave a report on the previous year’s working. The annual balance-sheet, which showed a credit of £ll/7/7, was adopted. Election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:- —President. Air. P. Beck; vice-president, Mr. ,1. Steel; Secretary, Mr. O. C. Joyce;

committee, Messrs. J. W. Greenslade K. Balchin. J. Tennent. R. Stopforth A. E. Kilgour, A. Harrison, R. Ander son. C. Dawson; auditor. Mr. .1, W Greenslade. The appreciation of the members for the work done by the previous president (Mr. S. B. White) and previous secretary (Mr. L. Wicks) was recorded in''the minutes. In returning thanks for the nomination as President, Mr. P. Beck pointed out how necessary it was at present to have a strong association of this kind, and stated that, as provided for in the rules of the Association, it did not only apply to retailers, but businessmen of every description, such as wholesalers, retailers, commercial firms, restaurant proprietors hotel-keepers and tradesmen should all belong to, the organisation. It was essential that all their interests should be considered and tha

they should all have a voice in any matters for the benefit of the town. There were at present 80 members, but this could easily be doubled. It was decided that meetings should be held at least once a month, and that general meetings should be called at any time the Executive considers necessary.

Arrangements were made for the president and secretary and the members of the executive to interview the various business people, in an endeavour to get them all to join and make one organisation including the whole of the business interests in the town.'
