SOCIAL SECURITY BUILDING
AWARD CONDITIONS WAIVED. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. February <l. A mass meeting of workers engaged in the building trade at Wellington was held yesterday, (o consider the waiving of award conditions, as an emergency measure, to facilitate the erection of ihe now social security building.
An assurance was given by Mr. P. C. Webb, who was present, throughout the meeting, that the proposal to work two ten-hour shifts was merely *o meet the emergency conditions, and (hat any agreement, reached would not affect future awards. With this assurance, the meeting carried a. resolution, expressing a desire to assist the Government to enable it to put. into operation, the Social Security Act on April 1. H, also agreed to special conditions being applied to this particular building, such conditions to have no bearing on. or io establish any precedent for awards.
