THOROUGHBRED SALES. WELLINGTON, January 20. The national thoroughbred sales were concluded at Trentham to-day, when brood mares, horses in training, untried stock, some two-year-olds, and other stock were offered. The feature of the auction was the dispersal of the Mana stud on account of Mr R. H. W. Holden, Poukawa, Hawke’s Bay, which was headed by the sire Siegfried, who was bought by Mr A. Chisholm, of Otautau, Southland, for 800 guineas. He is the sire of Wotan, winner of the Melbourne Cup. Lilock, the leading brood mare of the stud, with a brown filly by Siegfried and served by Siegfried, brought 700 guineas. Princess Bell, from the same stud, with a bay filly by Siegtried and served by Siegfried, brought 450 guineas, being purchased for Australia by Mr W. J. Smith, of Sydney, who bought several yearlings on Wednesday. He also paid 650 guineas for Blue Maid, with a'bay colt foal by Bulandshar and served by Bulandshar. This mare was sold on account of Mr J. S. McLeod, Hastings. Drachma, Counter Lunch, and Twilight Song were horses in training sold on account of Mr R. 11. W. Holden, Poukawa, Hawke’s Bay.
