CANADIAN PARLIAMENT

NEW ZEALAND’S EXAMPLE. [By CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. January 20, 1.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, January 19. In the House of Commons, New Zealand was extolled as an example to Canada, by Mr M. C. Coldwell (Commonwealth Federation (Labour) member). He said that the pensions,, increased wages and shorter hours, and the guaranteed farm prices, showed what the Government could do. He urged the admission to Canada of a stipulated number of Jewish refugees, declaring that New Zealand leads there, too.

DEFENCE POLICY. In the Senate, Mr Dandurand, the Government leader, vigorously denied Mr Meighen’s allegation that Canada was not co-operating with the Admiralty and War Office regarding defence.

He said that. Canada would not surrender her Avar autonomy. She was not going to be placed in a position of having to dance to the tune set by any British Government, which might be Tory, Liberal, Labour, or Socialist, Avithout an opportunity to approve entry into a conflict.
