Three rounds of post-section play in the fours event in the New Zealand Bowling Association’s championship tournament were decided to-day. One singles match and three games in the pairs were also disposed of. At the conclusion of to-day’s play in the rinks, seven two-life teams, and 22 one-lifers remained. They are as follow: Two lives: Franks (Balmoral), Love (New South Wales). Nielsen (Hawera), Bremner ( West End, Auckland), Brighting (Hataitai), Deare (Carlton), Lobb (New Plymouth). One life: R. Thomas (Mt. Albert), Evans (Hamilton), Spiller (Wellington). Aitcheson (Caledonian), Walker (Mt. Eden), Newman (Thames), Rolls (Featherston), Smeed (Tuakau), Faire (West End), R. V. Thomas (Napier), McMaster (Stanley), Whittle (Grey Lynn), A. Smart (New Plymouth), J. F. Hosking (Grey Lynn), Bull (Hawera), Purdy (Mt. Eden), Piper (Matai), Parsons (Ponsonby), Tongue (Rocky Nook), Livingstone (Onehunga), J. C. Duncan (Remuera.), Addison (Edendale). In the sixth round singles game, the form of the contestants , C. Rendie (Upper Hutt) and J. Martin (Ellerslie), was right up to championship standard, and both players were a 6 with one head to play. The Ellerslie representative, held the measure for a shot in his favour, and Rendle, with his last bowl, knocked Martin’s bowl on to the jack, and both went back a little, with Martin holding shot and the game. Two games in the fifth round oi postsection playing in the pairs event were decided in the morning, and one game in the sixth round was played m the afternoon. The winning pair in the sixth round contest, L. Balfour and I. Stephenson (Gisborne), earned the right to contest the final of this event.

THIS MORNING’S PLAY. AUCKLAND, January 19. The weaher is overcast, but still windy, for the continuation of the New Zealand bowling championships. For the first time in Auckland, a temporary stand was erected to accommodate 800 spectators alone, on the west side, on the main Carlton Green. Results: — Only two singles pairs games were listed'this morning. Singles (quarterfinal} : C. H. De Launay (Carlton) 18, R. S. Somervell (Ponsonby) 17. Pairs (remaining quarter-final): J. S. Anchor and W. J. Robinson (Hamilton) 17, A. G. Lowry and .1. Kerr (Onehunga) 16. The winner meets G. Gigson and J. Whyte (Sydenham) in the semi-final, the conqueror then playing L. Balfour and I. Stephenson (Gisborne), who are already in the tinal.

Twenty-nine teams were left in for the second day of the rinks championship, seven two-lifers and 22 onelifers.

The draw for the remaining men in the singles is as follows:— H. L. Cowper, Ponsouby (the only two-lifer), V. A. Connew (Mount. Albert), W. C. Franks (Balmoral), N. Bell, junior (Takapuna). Wellington will have three rinks, Greymouth three, Runanga two, and Reefton and Hokitika one each. Thirteen rinks from the Buller district, will also be competing.
