INSPECTOR OF HOSPITALS

WELLINGTON, January 19.

The Minister of Health (Mr. Fraser) stated, to-day, that the announcement of the appointment of Dr. McNickle as Inspectoi’ of Hospitals, under the Social Security Act, which was telegraphed from Invercargill, was incorrect. The appointment is that of Inspector of Hospitals under the Hospital Division of the Health Department, and his duties will not commence for about six months. Dr. McNickle’s duties will be to inspect medical work in the.public hospitals, with a view to maintaining the high standard. Similar work on the surgical side is already being done by a number of voluntary surgeons.
