BUTTER PRICES
NO RETAIL RISE?
[PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] I NEW PLYMOUTH, September 19. I Alleging that city consumers were buying butter at a price which would seriously increase the expected deficit of £900,000 in the Dairy Account, of North Taranaki Dairy Coy., an official to-night said that dairy companies selling locally would receive point seven nine of a penny less per pound than would be received by those exporting. It is reliably stated that there will be no increase in the retail butter prices, although the guaranteed price) has been increased by 1.64 pence per] pound. Differentials last year kept l returns from retail safes down to almost export prices, but it is stated! now that there will be no differentials this year, but that there will be “equalisation” later on. Dairy Company officials say that the only place that the | equalisation can come from is the Dairy Dairy Account, and stated that) therefore, returns from butter exports, would suffer in order that the public would have their butter at the same price as last year.
