REEFTON NOTES

[our own correspondent.] REEFTON, September 6. Mr. H. Schon, of the staff of the Reefton Railway Station, who has been transferred on promotion to Christchurch, was on Monday night, met by railway workers, members of the Inangahua Rugby Sub-Union, and the executive of the Reefton Swimming Club. A smoke concert, held in the Gymnasium, was well attended, and Mr. J. Brockless. Stationmaster, presided. Musical and instrumental items were enjoyed, and the following provided the programme: Messrs. Gilbert Murtha, Dennehy, D. Robbins, F. Crompton, J. Robinson, G. McNabb, and P. McMahon.

Mr. Brockless offered congratulation to Mr. Schon, on his promotion. He had been an efficient and obliging Railway Officer. He asked Mr. Schon to accept a wallet of notes to pur-* chase a gift to remember happy days in Reefton. Mr. F. Keating. President of the Tnangahua Rugby Sub-Union, in presenting ii gold-mounted fountain pen to Mr. Schon, thanked him for his support in the realm of football. Mr. L. Masters, for the executive of the Reefton Swimming Club, thanked Mr. Schon for his work as Club secretary. He had carried out much efficient work for the Club. He handed Mr. Schon a cheque from Club members. Mr. Schou thanked all for the gifts. He much regretted leaving Reefton. He had much enjoyed working, with the Railway staff, and among the sporting organisations in Reefton. Mr. Schou left for Christchurch this morning.
