’ COAST LAMBS DEARER. [pee press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 19. Fat lambs met with an excellent sale at yesterday’s Addington market, particularly West Coast lines, which made up to 34/4. Values in the other main sections were generally easier, iat cattle again receding by 15/- a head. .. . Store Sheep: There were lew attractive lots, apart from some station wethers, for which there was a keen demand, at an average of 20/9 a head. Two-tooth forward wethers made 22/3. A line of two-tooth comeback station wethers, in low condition, sold at 10/-. a fair class of ewe lambs at 15/6, and a pen of line woolled twotcoth ewes at 25/-. A few small pens of ordinary s.m. ewes sold at 13/-, and others of younger ages at 18/1. Fat Lambs: The quality of the entry of 1150 head was a little better than usual, and was raised by the inclusion of a good line from the West Coast. Butchers paid up to SAd for suitable serfs, and exporters were active for the lighter lambs- Competition was keen throughout, and, generally, it was one of the best normal sales for some time. West Coast sales wete. Treinbath Bros. (Waitaha), 79 at 16/4 to 34/4; L. W. Bassett (Hobonu,) 49 at 19/1 to 24/10: W. Bruce (Ahaura) 40 at IS/1 to 23/4. Fat. Sheep: The entry totalled approximately 5500 head, considerably more than last week. The market was irregular and although the quality was generally better, values, on an. average, were down by a shilling a head on last week. Values were: — Extra prime heavy wethers to 35/1. Prime heavy wethers , 29/- to 33/-. Prime medium-weight wethers, 26/to 29/6. Ordinary wethers, 22/- to 25/-. Light wethers, to 21/6. Extra prime heavy ewes to 2S/4. Prime heavy ewes, 21/6 to 23/6. Prime me-dium-weight ewes, 17/6 to 21/-. Ordinary ewes. 14/- to 17/-- Light ewes to 13/6. L. W. Bassett (Hohonti) sold 10 wethers at 19/10 to 24/1 and 14 ewes at 12/4 to 25/10. Fat Cattle: Again the entry was in excess of requirements, totalling 595 head. Quality was better than for some time, some good pens from the West Coast being included. The market opened well, but the over-supply soon caused a dragging, with an easing of fully 15/- a head for almost all classes. Prime steer beef made from 32/- to 34/- per 1001 b, in a few cases of young sorts a shade more, medium to good beef from 29/- to 31/-. secondary to 28/-, and rough down to 23/per 1001 b. Values were: Extra prime hteavy steers to £l6/7/6. Prime heavy steers, £l2/5/- to £l4/10/-. Primo medium-weight steers, £ll to £l2/5/-. Ordinary steers, £9 to £lO 10/-. Light steers to £B/15/-. Extra prime heifers to' £ll/12/6. Prime heifers, £7/5/- to £9. Medium heifers £6/5/- to £7/5/-. Light heifers to £6. Extra prime cows to £ll/12/6Prime cows, £7 to £B/10/-. Medium cows, £5 to £6/10/- Light cows to £4/15/-. West Coast sales were: R. Power (Jacksons) steer at £7/17/6; A. Jacksons (Jacksons) steer at £7 17/6, cow at £3/12/6; A. S. and H. A. Cunningham (Jacksons), 2 cows at £4/12/6 to £5/2/6; S. W. Oxnam (Murchison), 2 cows at £5/17/6.

Vealers: Despite a large entry of 300 head, there was a good sale until the concluding stages, when there was a general easing from 10/- to 20/- a head on the larger sorts. Values were: Best runners to £6/8/6. Heavy runners, £3/2/- to £4/8/6. Medium runners, £2/4/- to £3- Prime vealers, £2/14/- to £5/8/6. Medium calves, 22/- to £2/1/-. Small calves, 10/- to 20/-. Store Cattle: Well-bred young stock sold well at recent rates. A pen of 20 mixed colours in moderate store condition sold at £6/3/6, a pen of 12 cows at £3/11/-, and another betterconditioned line at £5/14/-. A line of 15 Hereford cows sold at £5/16/-. A pen of nine heifer calves sold at £3, and another at £2/19/-, and a pen of eight Hereford bull calves at £2/19/-. Daily Cows: There was a large entry of over 100 head, but due to the good lines offering, the best prices for seme time were realised. Two quality grade Friesian heifers sold at the good figures of £lB/10/- and £l7, and the best of the cows to £l4. A number of secondary cows sold at round about £9. Spring calvers and backward sorts were hard to quit. Fat Pigs: The heavy yarding of good quality porkers met with a brisk sale, although unfinished sorts met with a poor demand. Due to a small entry, baconers advanced by from 2/- to 3/u head on last week. Values were: — Light porkers, 29/6 to 40/6. Medium porkers, 42/6 to 48/6. Heavy porkers, 52/6 to 59/6. Average price per lb, 6}d to 7d. Light baconers, £3/1/6 to £3/9/6. Medium baconers, £3 12/6 to £3/19/6. Extra heavy baconers, £4/1/6 to £5/7/6. Average price per lb, 6.jd to 6:1 d. Store Pigs: There was a small entry and weaners advanced 2/- a headSlip.-, were also slightly better, but large and medium stores were hard to sell at satisfactory prices. Values were: Weaners, 7/- to 9/-; good to 12/1. Slips, 11/- to 14/. Small stores 16/- to 18/-.. Medium stores, 19/- to 22/-. Extra, large stores to 29/6.
