SYDNEY WOOL SALE. ( [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] j SYDNEY, April 27. At the wool sales to-day, 10,420 bales were offered, and 9140 sold, as well as 3823 privately. There was strong competition, which was .shared by all sections, and the market, was firm. Greasy merino made to 202 d. ADDINGTON MARKET PRICES RECEDE CHRISTCHURCH, April 28. Following the short entries and consequent high prices at last week s . holiday sale, there was an over-supply in most sections at yesterday s Addington market, and values receded to p're-holiday rates, the most marked (tecline being in the case of ewes, which were 4/- a head cheaper. Store lambs: A yarding of 1,650 met with a fair sale, at approximately preholiday prices. Good rape sorts made 17/3, with carry-over lambs selling at between 9/- and 12/- and others from 6/-. Store sheep: Little interest was shown in this 1 section, the quality being indifferent. Most ot the secondaij ewes were 2/- a head cheapei. Some of the Chatham Island wethers sold at 22/6 and ewes at 23/9. Local wethers made up to 21/-, but some old ewes sold at only 1/6 to 4/-, there being many sales round 7/6. Fat lambs: The entry totalled about 2000 head, as against. 520 last week and, as a result, values returned to normal. The general quality was not good. Exporters were fairly active, and butchers competed keenly for the odd-quality lines. For heavy-weights up to 8d per lb was made and prime hand weights made to Sid. Other sorts maintained schedule rates, but sold draggingly. West "Coast sales were: J. A. Jamieson (Hokitika). 14 at 18/1; W. I Fat sheep: The entry totalled over , 7000 head, and included some prime I wethers, which met with a good sale, at about last week's rates. There I was, however, a marked drop of about. 4/- a head for the big proportion of . ewes. Values were: Extra, prime I heavv wethers to 34/1. Fat. cattle: The entry was ot overi flow proportions, totalling 640 head, as against 310 last week, the bulk . comprising unfinished steers and medium and inferior cows. The market opened at a lower standard than the good rates ruling last week, good steers being slightly easier, but mediocre sorts up to 15/- a head lower. the advance of last week being lost for this class. However, the sale showed little change as it progressed. Best beef made from 34/6 1 to 37/- per 1001 b, good to medium 31/to 34/-, medium to 30/-, and rough ■ down to 24/- per 1001 b. Values were: Extra, prime heavy steers to £lB/2/6. Prime heavy steers, £l3/15/- to £l5 ’ 15/-. Prime Medium-weights, £l2/5/to £l4. Ordinary steers, £lO to £ll 10/-. Light steers, to £9/5/-. Extra prime heifers to £l3/2/6. Prime heifers, £9 to £lO/10/-. Medium heifers £7/10/- to £B/15/-. Ordinary heifers £6/5/- to £7/5/-. Light heifers to £6. Extra prime cows, to £l2/12/6. Prime cows, £B/5/- to £lO. Medium cows, £6 to £B. Light cows, to £5/15/-. West Coast sales were: Vendor, 9 steers at £9/17/6 to £l2/17/6. 10 cows at £6/2/6 to £6/12/6; G. R. Vealers: As a result of the large beef entry, vealers declined as the sale progressed. On an average, values were easier by 4/- to 10/- a head, while for the bigger classes of calves, the decline was greater. Values were Extra heavy runners, to £7/8/6. Heavy runners, £3/1/- to £4/6/6. Medium runners, £2/1/- to £3/1/-. Prime vealers. £2/14/- lo £4/11/-. Medium calves. 23/- to 38/-. Small calves, 10/- to 22/-. .Store cattle: The entry comprised mainly odd lots of cows, which, in good forward condition, sold at up to £5/3/-. Potting bulls met with a good demand.

Dairy cattle: The market again indicated that good types of cows near profit are wanted. Good cows and heifers sold well, averaging from £l2 10/- up to £l6 for the best. Backward cows and late springers were depressed. Fat Pigs: Porkers and choppers were forward in exceptional numbers and it was only the best, quality that met with a satisfactory sale. There was a medium entry of baconers and prices compared favourably with last week. Values were: —Light porkers, 32/6 to 41/6. Medium porkers, 42/6 to 49/6. Heavy porkers, 51/6 to 54/6. Average price per lb., 6Jd to 62d. Light baconers, 55/6 to £3/4/6. Medium baconers, £3/5/6 to £3/11/6. Extra heavy baconers, £3/19/6 to £5/0/6. Average price per lb., 6d to 6£d. Store pigs: Owing to a very heavy entry, the prices realised for store pigs- were the lowest for some years, there being little demand for any class. Values were: Weaners, 1/6 to 5/-, extra to 8/-.
