CHINESE CREW ATTACKED BRITISH PROMPT ACTION SHANGHAI, April 27. Japanese from launches boarded 1 the Britis hsteamer Tungwo, owned by Jardines, at the mouth of the Yangtse, bayoneted and wounded Chinese members of the crew and then escorted the vessel to a Japanese base on Tsungming Island, where they searched it from top to bottom. The owners declare that the ship was carrying ordinary cargo. The Japenese allege that arms were being carried. His Majesty’sunboat Cricket is sailing to investigate the Tungwo incident. The Japanese have promised, an immediate naval inquiry, and are hoping for a settlement within 24 hours. LATERThe Japanese have given an assurance for the release of the Tungwo before night.
