BOMB OUTRAGE
SUSPECT’S SANITY QUESTIONED. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] SYDNEY, April 19. The inquest was opened to-day into the Lid’combe bomb outrage on January 28, when Alfred Smith and his wife were killed. The chief testimony was given by a psychiatrist, Dr. J. McGeorge. In evidence he said that at the request of the police he kept a patient named Sidney Shannon under observation's at the reception house. During the time he heard Shannon declare: “I killed Smith. I threw a bomb under the bed.” I am mad. I. did the Lidcombei bombing.” ' The doctor added .that at other times Shannon talked incoherently. However, when nobody in authority was present, Shannon appeared to be quite sane and his mental symptoms appeared .to be simulated. The inquest was adjourned.
