HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL

HOKITIKA, February 11The meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was attended by the Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs. H. L. Michel, E. Teichelmann, H. T. Parry, T. AV. Duff. Apologies for absence were received’ from Crs. E. L. Park, A- R. Elcock, H. A. Thompson, and G. Heinz.

The financial statement showed receipts £693/2/11, expenditure £932 19/9. Accounts amounting to £Bl3 12/8 were passed for payment. Abattoirs’ report: Stock slaughtered for the month of January amounted to 52 cows, 33 heifers, 52 bullocks, 5 calves, 271 sheep, 131 lambs, 23 pigs; condemned: 2 cows, 1 heifer, 1 bullock, 2 sheep. Fees collected for the month £B5/2/— Fees collected for the corresponding month last year £76/18/-

W. F. Keen applied for domestic water supply to section 1578, North Revell Street.—Granted. The New Zealand Refrigerating Co.. Ltd., advised that the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika during January: S 3 sheep. 2 lambs.

Claud Neon Lights, Christchurch, applied to erect a Claud Neon light under verandah of premises occupied by Mr Nicol, Revel Street. The sign measures Sit. in length and Ift. in depth—Approved, subject to sign being Bft. above footpath. The Secretary of the Westland Racing Club asked that attention be given to the road and footpaths in Hampden Street prior to the races on 25th and 26th inst. —Approved. Hon. Secretary New Zealand Centennial (Westland) Committee, advised that a list of tentative dates of j | early historical events on the West | I Coast has been supplied, and the Under-Secretary asked each locality •to select an event in its district. Recommendations should be furnished not later than the 12th inst. Also, for-1 warding a draft of suggestions for local celebrations.—Received and approved. R. A. Campbell, consulting engineer, certified that subject to minor work still to be done that the new pumphouse had been completed to his satisfaction, and' that final payment may be made to the contractor. The Automobile Association (Westland Branch) asked that when the installation of the water mains has been completed, that steps be taken to expedite the sealing of the Borough roads.—Received, and to inform the Association that such was the Council’s intention.

Lady Div. Supt. St. John Ambulance, wrote thanking the Council for use of Town Hall for classes, and intimating that trained members of the ambulance will be available at any public function if required. Thocas Brown applied for septic tank on M.R. 558, Rolleston Street. — Granted, subject to Health Inspector. W. F. Keen applied for permission to instal a septic tank on section 1578, North Sewell Street. —Granted, subject to Health Inspector. Mr M. H. Houston, land valuer, advised that his valuation of the land comprising the street (right-of-way) between sections 18, 52, 48 and 167 town of Hokitika, which is now stopped, is £2l/10/-. —Payment of fee approved. Messrs Park, Murdoch and James,

on behalf of Messrs E. McDonnell and R. Ford and Co., Ltd-, offering to purchase the closed road between sections 16 and 48 and 18 and 52, town of Hokitika, for £2l/10/-, and advising that the owners have agreed to transfer 4.36 perches, being Lot I of Section 52 and Lot I of Section 20, town ot Hokitika, to the Council for the sum of £2l/10/-.— Approved. From residents about Bealey, AVeld and Hall Streets, asking for the raising of the footpath and kerbing.—Referred to Overseer and Public A\ 7 orks Comcittee for report on the cost. Mr D. Stevenson’s report on the public buildings in Hokitika was approved.

Further <, discussion of tar-sealing proposals was deferred until the return of Mr Heinz, chairman of the Works Committee, who is reporting on the matter, and in the meantime, it was decided to keep under observation the effect on the portion of Fitzherbert Street just completed.
