COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS. The West Coast amateur swimming championships were conducted at the Reefton baths, last evening. There was a large attendance, the door takings amounting to £4l. The events were all keenly contested, and several records were broken. The carnival was efficiently conducted by members of the Reefton Club, assisted by West Coast Centre officials. P. Foote (Westport) in winning the men’s 100 and 220 yards events, established new records. He recorded 61 2-ssec in the 100 yards event and 2min 39 l-ssec in the 220 yards event, breaking W. O’Leary’s record by 11 4-ssec. The 50 yards was won by H. Schou (Reefton), who also won the 100 yards backstroke race. Miss N. Hughes (Greymouth) won the women’s 50 and 100 yards events from the title-holder, Miss J. Walls (Westport). C. Dawson (Westport) won the junior boys’ 50 yards and 100 yards races, establishing a new record in the shorter race. C. Foote, in.winning the 100 yards backstroke, cut 5 2-ssec. off the previous best time. Results: — CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS. Senior Men’s 50 Yards: H. Schou (Reefton) 1; W. O’Leary (Greymouth) (Refton) 1; AV. O’Leary (Greymouth) 2. Time 29secs- O’Leary finished first, but failed to touch before Schou, bringing his arm ■up above the top of the baths. Record, A. Vincent, 27 2-5 secs.

Senior Men’s 100 Yards:—P. Foote (Westport) 1; C. Foote (Westport) 2. Only competitors. Won by five yards. Time 61secs. (Previous record 64 2-5). Senior Men’s 220 Yards: P. Foote (Westport) 1; R. Robertson (Westport) 2; H. Schou (Reefton) 3- Only competitors. Won by 10 yards. Time, 2.39 1-5. (Previous record, W. O’Leary 2.51).

Men’s 100 Yards Backstroke: C. Foote (Westport) 1; H. Schou (Reefton) 2. Time 76 2-5. (Previous record 82secs, C. Foote). Men’s 100 Yards Breaststroke: H. Schou (Reefton) 1; AV. Payne (Greymouth) 2; P. Geddes (Cobden) 3. Time 82 2-ssecs.

Ladies’ Dive: J. Osborne (Reefton) 79pts, 1; AV. Hughes (Grey) 74pts, 2; J. Watson (Westport) 65pts, 3. Men’s Dive: W. Honey (Reefton) 96pts, 1: AV. Payne (Grey) 90pts, 2; G. August (Reefton) 85pts, 3. Payne was the previous holder- Six competed.
