POPE PIUS X.

PROPOSED CANONISATION. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT.] LONDON. February 9. The Rome correspondent, of the “Daily Telegraph” says a broadcast message, evidently at the request of the Holy See, warned the people against excess of zeal at the tomb of Pope Piux X, who died in 1914 and is buried in the crypt of St. Peters. The speaker said that the zeal was aimed at putting pressure on the Church to hasten canonisation, but in fact it would delay it. The grave for many years has been constantly covered with fresh flowers, and queues have been formed of those waiting to pray. Pope Pius X during his lifetime, won a reputation as a worker of many miracles, and this belief gained ground after his death. There is a strong feeling that he should be made a saint without the customary delay.
