S. Hindin (Canterbury) continued his winning way in the New Zealand chess congress on Friday and Saturday, placing two more victories to his credit. Out of seven games played he has won five and drawn two, and has now six points. His nearest rivals are F. K. Kelling (Wellington) and DLynch (Hastings), who have 4J points each. The former won his seventh and eighth round games, as well as the adjourned match from the previous round.

MELBOURNE, January 2

Nicholson, the professional cyclist, in his year’s ride, covered 62,855 miles, a world record. LONDON, January 1. Menzies in this year’s cycling to December 31, cycled 61,561 miles. Two Lancashire riders, T. Chesebrough and W. Holt, started, at midnight in an attempt at creating a New Y’ear cycling record.

Smith, and I Mossop on the twentysecond head. The score was 22 all at tile end of the twenty-first head, and Runanga was lying three in the twenty-second head, when Mitchell sent up a shot which struck a wing bowl, and was deflected towards the jack to give the Westport rink victory.
