The wedding took place at the Presbyterian Church, Blenheim, on December 28, of Charles, second son of Mr and Mrs J. G. Quinn, of Blackball, and Carol Janet, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. H. Barr, of Blenheim, and formerly of Chrisltchurch. Rev. Mr Whitelaw officiated. Mr and Mrs C. Quinn will reside at Lower Hutt.

A Rotorua telegram announced the death, after a long and painful illness, of Mr. Harold Hamilton, director of the School of Maori Arts and Crafts. Mr. Hamilton was a son of the late Mr. Augustus Hamilton, director of the Dominion Museum. Mr. Hamilton was an able geologist, biologist, and entomologist, and was the author of a number of scientific papers. He was a member of the Douglas Mawson Antarctic expedition in 1911, returning in 1914, when he received the coveted Antarctic Medal. z

The death occurred at the Grey Hospital, yesterday morning, following a lengthy illness of Mr. James Patrick Murphy, a native of Greymouth, aged 67 years. He was formerly employed in the printing trade. He was single, and is survived by one brother, Hugh, and two sisters, Miss Catherine Murphy and Mrs. P. Blanchfield, all of Greymouth. The funeral, which was private, took place this‘afternoon, at the Karoro Cemetery.

After 45 years in the service of the Customs Department the Collector of Customs at the Port of Timaru, Mr. F. Oxford, retired on Friday. He will continue to live in Timaru. He was formerly stationed at Greymouth. Mr. Oxford was met by members of the Customs staff and representatives of the commercial community of Timaru, on whose behalf Mr. A. R. Duncan, examining officer, presented him with a leather travelling bag and a set of golf clubs. Mr. Oxford will be succeeded by Mr. G. P. Pritchard (Dunedin), who will take up his new duties about January 24.

The death occurred on Saturday, at Cobden, of Mr George Walter Simpson, a native of Remuera (Auckland), aged 56 years. Deceased had resided at Cobden for the past 30 years, and was employed by the Railways Department for 26 years, ill health compelling his retirement some months ago. He was a member of the Foresters’ Lodge. He isi survived by his wife, two daughters, Misses Heather and Shirley Simpson, and one sister, Mrs P. Thompson (New Plymouth). The funeral took place this afternoon, at the Karoro Cemetery, the services at St. Patrick’s Church and at the graveside, being conducted by Rev. Father Kelly.
