ANNUAL CAMP

COMPOSITE INFANTRY BATTALION

The Third Composite Infantry Battalion of which the Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Re S’“ ent f plies approximately one-third of t personnel, will be going in camp at Waikouaiti, about 25 miles north of Dunedin, from January 26 t far as the West Coast unit is concerned, it will be necessary for the troops to leave their respective tiaiding centres early on January 25, arriving in camp early on the following morning. The Nelson, Motueka. and Westport men travel by service car to Inangahua Junction where they join a special train, proceed to Stillwatei, where the Greymouth and Hokitika drafts will be picked up, and thence via. Otira, Rolleston, and the South main trunk line to Waikouaiti. The programme for the first day in camp, has been so designed to enable these troops and also the draft from the Southland Regiment, to have an easy day after travelling. The programme of work for the camp will prove interestfog, involving numerous moves by motor transport for the-purpose of taking up defensive positions, at various points. The training will also include the erection of obstacles such as wire entanglements, road blocks, and tank traps, and the construction of as-sault-bridges. Visiting troops-will have opportunities of seeing Dunedin as special arrangements are being made for leave for that purpose, one evening. In addition, the Battalion, on the last day of the camp, will move to Dunedin, by motor transport, and will march through the city. The camp will be open to visitors, on the afternoon of January 30. Indications are that the attendance from this district will be satisfactory, and employers are being helpful in the matter of arranging leave for Territorials in their employ.
