The visitors won the toss and batted. The opening was sensational, Menzies being caught by Gallichan off the Manawatu fast bowler, Pritchard,. in the first over, after making four. Mcßae, the incomer, straightway hit Pritchard for six, then Gallichan missed’ a couple of chances in the slips and later . a misunderstanding led to a skier from Mcßae being dropped.
