PRISONERS SENTENCED

. ATTACK ON WIDOW LABOURER IMPRISONED [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Juno 11. Described by the Judge as a potent-tially-dangerous criminal, Frederick Thomas Wilder, labourer, 22, was sentenced to 18 months’ reformative detention, by Mi’ Justice Northcroft, today. Wilder was charged with burglary, and causing bodily harm to Mrs Grace Abbott, whom he struck with a lead-weighted cudgel. “I told him that he was lucky not to be charged with murder,” said Wilder’s counsel, Mr Roy Twyneham. He referred to the- injuries received by Wilder in a motor accident, some years ago, and suggested reformative detention, which His Honor granted. Charles Drummond Bailey, farmer, of Loburn, was fined £|lo on each of two charges, by Mr Justice Northcroft, to-day, when he appeared for sentence on charges of negligent driving, causing injury, and failing to render assistance after the accident. Bailey’s license was cancelled, and he was disqualified for three years. Three months’ haj-.d labour was the sentence imposed on Albert Ernest Charles* Lange, aged 37, on a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge.
