COMPENSATION CLAIM. WELLINGTON, April 15

Evidence for the Crown occupied the attention of the Compensation Court to-day in the claim by J. E. Bultler, Ltd., against, the Minister for Public Works, for £41,000, as compensation for taking the company’s land and a three-storey building at the corner of Stout a.,nd Ballance streets.

John Gordon Harcourt, a. land agent and valuer, who was the first witness for the Crown, valued the whole Butler property at £18,686. It was accepted almost as a. principle that largo financial institutions seeking property coulld afford to pay more and were made to pay more than the average buyer. Ho estimated that the Butler building had largely outlived its practical life. He estimated its value at £7400. The rest of the £18,686 was. his estimate of the value of the site.

Other evidence about the value of the land was given. The decision was reserved.

A start was made with a similar claim for £17,976 by the Wellesley Club before the Court adjourned.
