PORT OF GREYMOUTH

TIMBER AND COAL EXPORTS. The export of coal from the port of Grevmouth continues to reach higher totals than for some considerable time, the total export for the months of January and .February this year being almost double that of the same two months last year, while a. similar increase was shown for the month of February alone. The export of timber so far this years does not show the notable increase of the coal, but nevertheless, for the two months, the export has been over a. quarter of a million superficial feet in excess of that for the corresponding period of last year, heavy coastal shipment more than counterbalancing the drop in the exports to Australia. The coal exports for the month of February, with comparisons with February, i. 936, shown in parentheses, were: —Coastal: 15,729 tong 18 cwt. (8,937 tons 1 cwt.); overseas, 175 tons 15 cwt. (526 tons 14 cwt.) total 15.905 tons 13 cwt. (9,463 tons 15 cwt.) Coal exports for January and February, 1937, were: —Coastal .29,985 tons 3 cwt. (15.514 tons 11 cwt.) ; overseas 952 tons 3 cwt. (857 tons 1 cwt.); total 30,967 tons 6 cwt.
