CORONATION FESTIVITIES

ABBEY PREPARATION COST [BBITISH OFFICIAL WIBELESS.] RUGBY, February 18. A supplementary estimate of £2,988,504 contains provision for expenses for the Coronation amounting to £152,000. Of this sum, £150,000 represents the cost of the preparation of Westminster Abbey and an annexe, which is being specially built, and the erection of stands along the route of the procession. A central organisation, which will assist Coronation visitors to find beds and meals, is now established, and 3000 rooms have already been offered for disposal by it. It is stated that many thousands more are required.

CORONATION OATH. CANBERRA, February 20. Mr Lyons, announcing the form of the Coronation oath to be taken by the King, said that discussions on the subject had been most valuable in clarifying the existing constitutional relationship between members of the British Commonwealth. DUKE OF WINDSOR’S GRANT. (Recd. February 20,. Noon.) LONDON, February 19. The Duke of Windsor’s private plane, piloted by Lieutenant Fielden, left Hendon. It is believed to be taking Sir Walter Monckton to Vienna. The “Morning Post’s political correspondent understands that Sir W. Monckton will discuss the financial arrangements with the Duke which are holding up the Civil List, though a grant is likely to be made privately. The question of his projected marriage is , creating difficulties. Until private arrangements are completed, the Government is to proceed with the appointment of a Select Committee on the Civil List. M.P.’S ENGAGEMENT. LONDON. February 19. The “Daily Telegraph” understands that the engagement will be announced shortly of Lord Scott, M.P., the Duchess of Gloucester’s brother, aged 26 years, to Lady Rachel Douglas Home, daughter of the Earl of Home. Lord Scott is the Duke of Gloucester’s most intimate friend.
