BOXING
LOUIS KNOCKS OUT BROWN. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT.] , KANSAS CITY, February 18. Joe Louis knocked out Natie Brown in the fourth round of a scheduled tenround bout. There was a wild finish. It was similar to that in a wrestling bout, with Referee Bates also floored, while a crowd of fourteen thousand roared. Louis methodically sent rights and lefts to Brown’s face in the first forty seconds of the fourth round, until a hard right dropped him. Brown was dazed, and was in a sitting position. Then, attempting to raise himself to his feet, Brown clutched Referee Bates’s leg. He thus pulled the referee down to the floor too. Referee Bates arose and awarded the fight to Louis, on - a technical knock-out; but the official timekeeper informed him that he (the timekeeper) had completed the count while Bates was down with Brown, so the referee then changed his decision, and credited Louis with a. knock-out. Louis, in the first round, left his corner slowly, and circled round. A light left from Brown glanced Louis’s chin. The men clinched. Then Louis led with two lefts, but he did no damage. Brown crossed with his right to the head, and they exchanged left jabs. Then Louis hooked a hard left to the body. Brown sent his right to Louis’s ear. In the second round, Brown came out. faster. He carried the fight to Louis. There was a brief flurry of punches. Louis backed Brown to the ropes, but he fought clear. Louis then began to connect with short lefts and rights to the chin. In the third round, Louis stalked Brown, but he was unable to land an effective blow. They exchanged body blows at close quarters. Louis again connected with hard lefts and rights to the face, as Brown came in. Brown landed a solid right to (he body. In the fourth round, the men met in the centre of the ring. Louis connected with hard rights and lefts to Brown's face, which was becomingpuffy. Brown went to the ropes. Louis then landed a terrific right, ending the fight. LOUIS V. BRADDOCK. KANSAS CITY. February 18. The promoter, Mr. Joe Foley, announced that at Chicago, arrangements have been completed for the Louis — Braddock title bout, at Comiskey Park, instead of at Soldiers’ Field, on June 22. The change- is due to a 25 per cent, demand for the latter. Louis and Braddock are scheduled to appear during the day for a formal contract signing ceremony.
