The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand reports a net profit of £21,143. A dividend of 5 per cent, and a bonus of 11 per cent, will be paid, and £15,409 will be carried forward. The directors emphasise that the bonus applies to the year under review, and must not be taken as an indication of increased' distributions in future. GOLD AND EXCHANGE LONDON, February 18. Gold 142/1, dollar 489 3-8, franc 105 1-8. RESERVE BANK. WELLINGTON, February 18. The Reserve Bank statement for this week shows a decrease in the note issue of £446,700. Demand liabilities to the State are shown at £720,400 more, and other demand liabilities are shown at £653,400 higher. Demand liabilities to the banks are £503,200 lower. Other liabilities show a slight increase. On the assets side, sterling exchange is shown at £309,700 less, and subsidiary coin at £l6OO less. Advances from the bank to the dairy account are £587,000 higher, and other accounts are £551,600 higher.

WORKSOP DREDGE. The wash-up of the Worksop Dredge for the week, showed a return of 82 ozs, for 135 hours’ dredging of 12,000 yards of material. MOUNT MORGAN. WELLINGTON, February 19. Mount Morgan, Limited, reports that the new oxidised ore plant is working satisfactorily, and is now in full production.

BIG RIVER GOLD MINES. Report for the week ending February 16:-—Surface: The old culvert draining engine room foundations, and carrying exhaust steam pipes, caved in after heavy rain. Now opening up and retimbering. No. 4 Level: South Stope—Mullocking and bringing up pass to No. 3 Level. No. 5 Level: South Drive —A round taken out showed a definite foot wall and hanging wall. The reef track carries a few small seams of stone carrying mineral. Rise: Advanced l ift Gin. The distance now up is .'lSft. Gin. at which a block of stone 2ft. Gin. wide is exposed on the hanging wall side. A dish prospect from the borings showed free gold. A later report states: Stone broken out of the rise shows coarse gold. The rise appears to have struck the north end of an ore body, which seems to be making stronger going south.
