GOVERNOR WARNS STRIKERS [BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] NEW YORK, February 16. A message from Trenton says that the Governor of New Jersey (Mr. H. G. Hoffman) has issued a statement warning the Committee of Industrial Organisation that the “lawless methods and practices” used in the automobile workers’ strikes in Michigan and Indiana will not be tolerated in New Jersey. He said there was no doubt in his mind that stay-in strikes were illegal. He was determined, if necessary, to employ the entire resources of' the State to preserve property rights and to punish any attempts to subvert or contemn the law. He had issued the statement because of reports that the Committee of Industrial Organisation was preparing a “unionisation” drive among New Jersey industrial workers. Replying to Mr, Hoffman, leaders of labour unions in the State .issued defiant statements that they were prepared to call a stay-in strike if necessary, in spite of the Governor. They accused him of'opposing all efforts to organise labour, and of “standingguard over the State’s sweatshops.”
