UNITED DEFEAT MARIST. United scored an easy victory over Marist on the No. 1 wicket at the Recreation Ground on Saturday. The w'icket w'as easy-paced. P. Allen (United) was the star of the game, his splendid wicket-keeping, and fine innings contributing a great deal towards victory. Marist batted first, and after losing three good wickets for eight runs, did well to get 116. Cullen 33. W. Clancy 28 and D. Clancy 19 all batted well for Marist. WELLINGTON MATCH WELLINGTON, December 20. The Town v. Country cricket match was drawn, with Town in the better position. Town, first innings, made 285. A feature of the country bowling was the steadiness of the left-hand slow attack of Gallichan (Manawatu), from whom three catches were dropped, otherwise his figures would have been much better than one for 40. Country, 129 behind on the first innings, made 181 in the second, Betts (Taranaki) scoring 41, Gallichan playing another fine fighting innings of 58. Blundell took three wickets for 44 runs, and Lamason was effective against the tail, securing three wickets for 17. Through the O’Brien (Hawke's Bay) was dropped from the Wellington Plunket Shield team, but Moloney (Manawatu) and Gallichan (Manawatu) have been included.
