The Rome correspondent of the British United Press is reliably informed that the Vatican authorities have instructed ;the police to be prepared to close the Vatican gates at a given signal. It is believed that the Pope is suffering frbm Bright's disease or dropsy, as one of his legs is slightly swollen, i He is also suffering from kidney trouble, yet continues his routine and refuses to curtail his audiences. His medical advisers find the Pope a difficult patient, as he refuses to undergo a thorough examination.
