Mr. C. Parfitt arrived yesterday, from Wellington, and is the guest of Mrs. C. Parfitt, Palmerston Street.

The Victoria University College’s nominees for the 1937 New Zealand Rhodes Scholarships are H. L. Baker, 8.A., and G. E. Wilson, M.A. The nominations were made yesterday by the Professorial Board.

A Sydney cablegram announced the death of the Rev. Father Piquet, aged 84. He was a member of the Marist order for 66 years. He was a foundation member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society in New South Wales.

Mr V. E. Sanders, manager of the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board, has been appointed secretary-treas-urer of the Napier Harbour Board, in place of Mr J. P, Kenny, who is. to retire on August 24, after 51 years’ service with the Board. —Press Assn.

Mr Richard William Arnold, chief of the totalisator staff at Riccarton racecourse, collapsed and died in Cathedral square yesterday morning, on his way to the course. Lately he had. not been in good health. He was 72 years of age, and had held his position at Riccarton for 20 years. He is survived by a widow, one son, and one daughter.

The Air Ministry has announced the following appointments: Air ViceMarshal Gossage to be Air Officer commanding the No. 11 fighter group, in place of Air-Marshal Joubert de la Ferte. Air Commodore Bulford to be Superintendent of the Royal Air Force Reserve, and Inspector of Civil Flying Training Schools, in place of Group-Captain Leckie, who is to be Director of Training at the Air Ministry, in place of Air Commodore Tedder.—Official Wireless.
