TWO MOTORISTS KILLED.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 6.

Two men were killed when a car overturned in the Weka Pass, North Canterbury, about 6.30 last evening. Those killed were: Robert Moulton, married, of Clifton Street, Addington, and Frank Chapman, married, of 102 Harper Street, Sydenham. The car, a tourer, which was owned and driven by Moulton, was coming from the Lewis Pass camp, where the seven men in it were employed. After negotiating a bend in the Weka Pass it struck the side-rail of a bridge and tipped over into a creek. The accident occurred at a spot known as Pretty bridge. The other five passengers in the car were uninjured.

PINNED BY TREE.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 6.

Serious injuries were received by John Harold Vette, a farmer, of Ashley Bank, last evening, when the branch of a tree fell on him, pinning him to the ground. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital about 7.30 with internal injuries and injuries to his back and ribs. His condition early this morning was reported to be serious. He bad assisted a. neighbour, 11. Ludemann, to fell a large bluegum tree, and was engaged in trimming it when the trunk rolled over and a branch caught Vette, forcing him into tho soft ground.

BURNT BY TAR.

WANGANUI, August 6

An explosion of a drum of tar at the Wanganui City Council’s yard today resulted in three men being burnt, one severely. George W. Hoskins, aged 52, married, fared the worst, being severely burnt about the chest, face, and arms. I 1 wo companions, J. P. Kenny and E. J. Pull, both married, received minor burns.

The men were heating the tar to obtain a better flow for street work, when the half-full drum exploded, the sound being heard in the centre of the city, a quarter to half a mile away. Hoskins’ clothes caught fire and he suffered more than the others, who have since been discharged from hospital. Hoskins is progressing favourably.

WOMAN CYCLIST KILLED.

WANGANUI, August 6.

As the result of an accident at the corner of Guyton Street and Victoria Avenue this evening, Constance Bridges, single, aged 22, died in the Wanganui Hospital, five minutes after admission. Apparently she was cycling up Victoria Avenue and collided with a heavy benzine lorry, receiving a crushed chest.
