N.S.W. GOVERNOR. SYDNEY, August 6.
A warm welcome was to-day accorded the Governor-designate of New South Wales, Admiral Sir Murray Anderson, and his wife. A representative gathering of members of the Cabinet, city aidermen, and public men and women assembled at the wharf to greet Sir Murray and Lady Anderson in/glorious sunshine.
MEAT FOR BRITAIN. SYDNEY, August 6
The Acting-Minister of Commerce, Mr. Thurby, announced that under the new Meat Agreement, with Britain, Australian meat shipments would increase by 15 per cent., while British imports, from foreign countries, would be curtailed by five per cent.
“DISCOVERY” FOR SALE. ADELAIDE, August 6
Sir Douglas Mawson, having learned that the Polar ship, Discovery, is for sale in London, expressed a hope that the vessel would be bought by Australia, and kept here to enable scientists to keep in touch with the Antarctic. He said that the Discovery was the staunchest ship of her class ever built. She was unrivalled for negotiating pack-ice. and was good for 50 more years of active service.
