HOLBEIN’S SWIM.
LONDON, August 6.
Holbein (veteran cyclist and swimmer), who is now 75 years of age, last evening swam in the Thames from Richmond lock to London Bridge, a distance of IS miles, in 5& hours. Holbein has made many notable river swims. > He made nine attempts to swim the channel, the last being on his fifty-second birthday. He was nearest to success in 1902, when ho gave up within 500 yards of Dover.

CYCLING
WELLINGTON, August 6.
The New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association gave approval to-night to the holding of the 1937 national track championships at Western Springs Stadium, Auckland, on the first Saturday in March. It was decided to recognise the record of Miss V. Baird for the women’s Auckland to Wellington cycle ride, and forward it to the Federation for approval. Mr. A'. R. Thomas, President, was elected to fill the vacancy on the Association’s delegation to the N.Z. Olympic and British Empire Games Association, created by the resignation of Mr. H. A. Oos.
