EMPIRE PRODUCE

BRITAIN’S MEAT SUPPLIES.

[BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN.—-COPYBIGHT.]

LONDON, July 22

Conservative members of the agricultural committee of the House of Commons are urging the Government to impose a preferential levy ou meat from the Dominion in order to reduce the beef subsidy. The “Sun-Herald” says that a storm is brewing in the House of Commons, as a result of the Government’s decision not to impose a levy on meat imports from the Dominions. The formidable nature of the agitation is evidenced by a resolution passed by the Conservative Agricultural Committee, comprising Conservative members of the Commons, that, in order to reduce the amount of the Treasury subsidy, and as part of the long-term policy, all meat imports front the Dominions should, at. the earliest possible moment, be subject to a levy, on a preferential basis.
