SHIPPING NOTES. Holmlea (formerly Parera) is due to-night, from Meicer, and is to sail to-morrow, for Wellington. Waimea leaves Wellington to-day, for Westport and Greymouth. She is due here to-morrow night, to load timber for Port Waikato. Poolta left Wellington last night with cargo for Greymouth, and is due at noon to-morrow, to load for Miramar, Petone and Wellington. Waipahi left Dunedin last night for Greymouth, via Wellington, and is due here at noon on Saturday, to load for Auckland and Portland. Titoki is due on Saturday, from Wanganui and Nelson, to load coal for Gisborne, Waikokopu and Napier. Alexander is due on Sunday night, from Dargaville, to load coal for Tarakohe, sailing on Monday. She returns to Greymouth direct, being due on Wednesday, to load timbei’ for Petone. Kaimai leaves Wellington on Saturday for Greymouth, and is due on Sunday night, to load for Wellington. Kaimiro’s discharge at Wellington has been delayed by rain, and she is now expected to load timber at Westport about Saturday and Monday, completing at Greymouth towards the end of next week, for Melbourne and Adelaide. Hokitika leaves Hokitika this afternoon with timber for Wellington. She is expected to leave Wellington on Monday night with cargo for Westport, Greymouth and Hokitika.

JAPANESE SERVICE. WELLINGTON, July 22. In answer to a report that there is the likelihood of a discontinuance of the direct shipping service between Japanese ports and New Zealand main ports, the Kobe office of Yamashit.a Steam Ship Co. (Y.K.K. Line) has cabled the Wellington agents, stating that, so far as their line is concerned, they have no intention whatever to discontinue their service, and that the regular monthly direct service will be maintained between the two countries.
