RAILWAYMEN’S O.B.U.

INSTITUTE’S OPPOSITION. [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, June 30. It would appear that in Dunedin, at least, the movement for the formation of a combined Union of Railway workers does not command unanimous support, it is stated that a majority of the members of the Otago branch of the Railway Officers’ institute is strongly opposed to the constitution of One Big Union. The matter will be discussed at the annual conference of the Institute in Wellington this month, and not until then will the final decision of the Institute be known.

It was stated to-day by Messrs D. J. Munro (president) arid C. W. S. White (vice-president) of the Otago branch of the Institute, that the Otago branch had not been officially represented at the meeting of railway organisations held on the previous night and that, in fact, only one member of the Institute had attended that meeting. No invitations to be present had been issued, either officially or unofficially. The flews expressed by the combined meeting of railway workers regarding the formation of One Big Union wece definitely not those of the Otago branch of the Railway Officers’ Institute, which wished to dissociate itself from the decisions reached.
