ENGLISHMEN WIN. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] BRISBANE, June 17. The English Rugby League team today defeated Mackay by 40 points to 17. The English forwards and backs dominated the play throughout. Arkwright, playing for the first time on the tour, was injured early in the second half, and did not resume. Tries were scored for England by Risman (2), Exley (2). Arkwright Davies, Hudson and Troup, and Hodgson kicked eight goals. For Mackay Daley scored two tries, Lang one, and O’Neill kicked four goals. The gate takings amounted to £470.

MARIST SCHOOL COMPETITION. The first, round of the Marist School inter-house League competition was competed yesterday afternoon, at Victoria Park. In the senior grade, St. Paul’s overwhelmed the leaders, St. Patrick’s, -winning by 28 points to 4. The Beban brothers proved too fast for the opposition. As the result of this game three teams are now equal. In the second game in this grade St. Columba’s defeated St. Joseph’s by 15 points to nil. In the Intermediate grade the results were:—St. Patrick’s 25, beat St. Paul’s, 2; St. Joseph’s 30, beat St. Columba’s nil. St. Patrick’s went through the first round undefeated. The junior grade results were:—St. Joseph’s 24, beat St. Columba’s 3; St. Patrick’s 12, beat St. Paul’s 6. The defeat of St. Paul’s, the leading team, by St. Patrick's, was a surprise, and they are level with St. Joseph’s. Harding and Mundy played outstanding games in this grade. Messrs 11. Williams, J. Devon port, J. Affleck and A. Mundy assisted the Brothers as coaches and referees.
