A Sydney cablegram announced that Detectives H. C. March and McLennan, who arrived there from England, on Thursday, sailed by the Monowa. for Wellington yesterday'.

Mr. C. Jackson, of Christchurch, has been appointed to the position of chief projectionist at the Regent Theatre, Greymouth,, succeeding Mr. F. Hull. Mr. and Mrs. Hull —last evening, for Dunedin.

It is understood that Mr C. J. Strongman, Inspector of Mines at Greymouth, has been appointed to succeed Mr I. A. James, as Superintendent of State Mines. Mr James will retire at an early date, on superannuation.

Mr Alexander W. McNichol has been appointed General Manager of the Union Bank of Australia, Limited, in succession to Mr W. A. Leitch, who is retiring (stated a Sydney cablegram). Mr McNichol was at one time senior sub-inspector of the Bank in New Zealand. *

Mr J. S. Campbell, of the staff of J. M. Bunt and Co., Greymouth, left this morning, to take a position as assistant accountant to the Shell Oil Company, Christchurch. Mr Campbell was presented with two volumes by the staff, and with a cheque by the management. Mi- C. R. Reynolds, of Christchurch, will arrive next Saturday, to replace Mr Campbell.

Miss Carrie James, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. A. James, Greymouth, who has completed all subjects for the Bachelor of Music degree, at the Canterbury University College, received the University Diploma of Music, at the capping ceremony yesterday. Miss James also holds the licentiate diplomas of the Royal Academy, and the Trinity College of Music, London.

The wedding took place at St. John’s Presbyterian Church Greymouth, this morning, of Francis Mornington, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Smyth, Wellington, and Frances Evelyn, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. A. James, Cowper Street, Grevmouth. Rev. H. R. Fell officiated. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Smyth left later by the express, for Christchurch.

The death occurred at the Grey River Hospital last evening, after an illness lasting five months, of Patrick Egan, of Blackball, aged 60 years. Deceased, who was a native of Trinent, Scotland, had resided for the past 23 years in Blackball. Besides his wife, deceased is survl’T I by six daughters and four s'-ns: Mrs. Ringdall (Christchurch), Misses Martha (Ashburton), Agnes (Christchurch), Eileen, Clara and Patricia (Greymouth), and James (Christchurch), • John (Wallsend), Patrick (Greymouth) and Frederick (Reefton). The funeral will take place on Monday, leaving Bellamy’s Mortuary at 2 p.m. for the Karoro Cemetery.
