DE GANS DEFEATS NICOL. [per press association.] INVERCARGILL. May 7. In a boxing contest at the Civic Theatre to-night, Roy de Gans, an American Negro, defeated Ray Nicol, of Ohai, heavyweight champion of New Zealand, on points. De Gans’ weight was 12st., and Nicol’s 12.7. The theatre was crowded, and hundreds were unable to get in. It was a splendid contest. De Gans, who had a clear margin of points in his favour, gave an impressive display of boxing. The title was not involved. RAYNER V. AITKEN. BLENHEIM, May 7. Clarrie Rayner (9.4), Blenheim, took a technical knockout decision over Ralph Aitken (9st.), of Wellington, the referee stopping the bout in the third round of a scheduled fifteen round contest. In a professional preliminary, Ginger Wade (Nelson) was awarded the verdict over Percy Rayner (Blenheim) in the eighth round of a scheduled ten-roqnd bout. Rayner claimed a foul which was not allowed.
