The annual show of the Hokitika Chrysanthemum Society was held yesterday, and was a big success. The exhibition would compare favourably with any of its kind in the Dominion, remarked visitors, who had seen such shows in larger centres. There was a wealth of beautiful blooms. To enhance the brightness of the scene, stall-holders were attired', in fancy costumes, which was also competitive. The choir was the winner of this section. The judges were:—Flowers and vegetables, Mi* F. Groufsky; decorative, Mrs Northcroft.

Familiar names are among the prize-winners. Mr H. Fitzgerald scored the highest number of points with 38, Mr A. Groufsky second with 23, and Mr F. Martini 16. The Yarrall rose bowl went to Mr Fitzgerald for best local-grown bloom. He also secured the Jackson Cup, also cup for two white Japanese. Mr A. Groufsky won the Coulson Cup, also had most points for vegetables, and Mrs Ashley secured the Carden Cup in the decorative section. The absence of competitors from Greymouth has been- commented upon "during- the past few years. Hokitika growers are some of the chief exhibitors in Greymouth shows. The spirit of reciprocity is sadly lacking.
