SEA LION POISONED
WELLINGTON ZOO TRAGEDY [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, May 7. The sea lion, Joey, recently brought from Dunedin, and over which fierce controversy has raged both here and in Dunedin, was discovered dead at the zoo yesterday morning. An autopsy is being conducted by Colonel Young and the Government Analyst. This, though not yet complete, is stated to give such definite indications of poisoning, that the City Council has offered a reward to anyone supplying information that may lead to the conviction of the person responsible. The autopsy shows the sea lion was organically sound, in fact in perfect health, and the Curator of the zoo says there was no sign of the animal languishing, and it was in such perfect condition that it was contemplated taking it to Auckland, to allow the people there to see it.
