HOLY TRINITY CHURCH

PARISHIONERS’ MEETING The annual meeting of parishioners was held, last evening, in Holy Trinity schoolroom. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn presided over a representative gathering. The meeting formally placed on record its appreciation of the services of the late Mrs. J. Hambleton and the latfe Mr. W. Cochrane.

The Vicar reported that-the Bishop | of Nelson had twice visited the parish: during the year. The Trinity-tide Festival was a great success. This year the visiting preacher for Trinity Sundav would be the Venerable ArchdOa'cdh W. Bullock of St. Peters. Wellington. Reports from the Sunday. School choir, and various Guilds' showed a year of steady progress. The Blaketown Sunday School has a freehold section near the Fire Brigade ( Station and there is a small sum in; hand for building a schoolroom. The Karoro Infant Sunday School meets in the United Pavilion. The attendance at Holy Trinity School has improved and afternoon schools are held regularly at Camerons and Paroa. The Bible Classes sustained a loss this year through tlie departure of Mrs. A. C. Dickson and Mr. Frith Roberts. Both the senior and junior choirs reached a high standard in the th st part of the year, but the transfer of Mr. T. F. Savage to Dunedin was a set-back. Mr. A. Hopkinson has temporarily filled the position of choirmaster and Miss V. Millar has acted as organist. The parish balance sheet was presented by Mr. H. Herring, People’s Warden. The ordinary offertories amounted to £467; of this amount over £250 was given through the envelope system. Offertories and subscriptions for the church’s work overseas amounted to £9O; for Home Mission £l2. Special efforts by the ladies’ organisations raised £lBO. The charge this year for maintenance and repairs of church, organ, Sunday school and vicarage was higher than last year and must continue to increase in the old buildings. The purchase of the Tainui St. properties had absorbed all ready monies and left a credit balance of only 4/7. The new church building fund and furnishing fund is invested with the Diocesan Trust Board, Nelson and will be available when.the plans for the new church are, finally approved by the Standing Committee. The balance sheet was approved and adopted. Mr. Herring moved that the meeting approve of the proposed Diocesan scheme for making the Home Mission Fund a regular proportionate charge upon all the parishes. This would enable the work of the country districts to be stabilised. Mr. Leach pointed out that in the past the parish’s voluntary contribution to the fund fluctuated 'between £lO and £9O. The average was well above the amount to which the parish will be actually assessed. The change would end a very unsatisfactory position. The proposal was carried. Approval was also given to the principle of payment of the travelling expenses of lay-representa-tives to Synod. The following officers were gleetpl; Vicar’s Warden: Mr. I. Leach; People’s Warden: Mr. H. Herring; Vestrymen: Messrs F. A. Butterfield. L Chapman, R. S. Gore, A. E. Hignett, A. M. Jamieson, A. E. Mayell. C C. Mosley, W. Musson, W. E. Bring and W. H. Spender; Synodsmeii: Messrs C. Neville, G. S. Pratt, A. M. Jamieson. Parish Nominators: I. Leach, H. Herring, G. Gage; Auditor: Mr. T. E. Coates. After the elections, the legal formalities in connection with the salb, purchase and Investing of trust pro-

perties were completed and the documents signed. Votes of thanks weretendered to the Lay Readers, Sunday School teachers, members of the choir, Ladies’ Guild, Sanctuary Guild and Mothers’ Union. The Churchwardens recorded tlie appreciation by the parishioners of the services of Archdeacon and Mrs. Jermyn.
