EARLY MORNING NOISES. ? LONDON, October 1. Retaliation by a retired schoolmaster for what he alleged was the unnecessary noise caused by cars led to 15 residents at Hillway, Holly Lodge estate, Highgate, claiming an injunction against him to refrain from annoyance. Defendant was Mr. G. T. Kelland, who also resides in Hillway. Judge Konstam, granting the injunction, with £3O damages, at Clerkenwell County-court yesterday, said: “In these modern days people go about in motor-cars, and there are noises which were unknown some years ago. But we have to live as decent neigh* hours in the times in which we live.” It was alleged that Mr. Kelland had shouted “with a sergeant-major s voice” out of his window in the early hours of the morning, had banged his doors and windows, and blown a police whistle furiously. Mr. Sydney J. Page, secretary ot the Railway Rates Tribunal, said defendant had suggested that the _ residents were “in conspiracy against him ” Witness had heard him shout at one a.m., “You devils! You dirty Lt.-Col. Walter Vignoles and other residents also gave evidence. Sub-Divl. Inspector Lewis said he had received 14 letters of complaint. Defendant had said, “They annoyed me. They come here and make unnecessary noise With their cars, and so long as they do that I will retaliate.”
